A condensed summary of what's new in each release. For the full notes and download artifacts, see the GitHub releases.

  1. agsh becomes the default shell

    • Ships as a signed and Apple-notarized macOS build.
    • Bundled agsh 0.2.0 is now the default shell, with an app-wide default, per-project defaults, and a command-palette-style shell picker for individual terminals.
    • Added a real, drag-reorderable session tab strip, a unified new-session flow on Command-T, a semantic command timeline, and an in-pane disconnect and reconnect banner.
    • Merged tabs and session status into one bottom bar, including live working-directory reporting for agsh sessions.
    • Introduced shared interface primitives for modals, menus, toasts, empty states, and badges; all dialogs now use accessible focus-trapped modals.
    • Added unified Settings, agent-specific welcome cards, action-oriented empty states, transient notifications with a persistent Activity Center, a declarative keymap, a Command-/ shortcuts guide, Command-K app actions, and accessible command-palette roles.
    • Added automatic GitHub release notifications, hardened display-wake recovery and embedded-browser lifecycle handling, made SSH downloads crash-safe and observable, and updated the PDF and editor runtimes for security.
  2. Workspaces, projects, and sessions in one sidebar

    • Added Workspaces as a new top-level tier, organizing the app as Workspaces → Projects → Sessions with optional custom workspace icons and automatic migration into a default workspace.
    • Reworked the sidebar into a unified tree where every project in the active workspace can expand inline to show its sessions, with active-project auto-expand and collapse/expand all actions.
    • Added keyboard quick-switching from sidebar search: use Up, Down, and Enter to jump directly to projects and sessions.
    • Added a per-project plus menu for starting terminals, Claude, Codex, and SSH sessions directly in a project; on SSH projects, Claude and Codex now launch on the remote host in the project root.
    • Improved session clarity with a distinct remote icon for SSH sessions, per-session colors across states, restored pinned/disconnected indicators, calmer sidebar visuals, and a workspace delete flow for moving or removing projects.
  3. Signed and notarized macOS build

    • First fully code-signed and Apple-notarized Agents UI DMG, so installation no longer needs Gatekeeper workarounds or extra quarantine cleanup steps.
    • Simplified install flow: download the DMG, drag Agents UI into Applications, and launch it normally on Apple Silicon Macs.
    • Fixed intermittent SSH file transfer failures by making SCP reuse the shared connection master and retry transient session-channel errors.
  4. Fix terminal and SSH descriptor exhaustion

    • Raised the macOS open-file descriptor limit at startup from the default 256 up to 65,536 to prevent failures once many sessions are active.
    • Fixed new local and SSH terminals silently failing to open after restored sessions, PTYs, and SSH control sockets exhausted available descriptors.
    • Fixed SSH host file trees failing to load when the same descriptor exhaustion prevented new file, socket, or PTY allocations.
  5. Auto-Caffeinate for SSH sessions

    • Added Auto-Caffeinate so Agents UI keeps your Mac awake while SSH sessions are active, protecting long-running remote processes from idle sleep.
    • Added an Auto-Caffeinate toggle under Power in the top-bar settings, enabled by default, plus a status hint while the keep-awake assertion is held.
    • Fixed the Command-K Quick Access hint flickering during agent runs by hiding it on activity and only restoring it after a sustained quiet stretch.
  6. Reliability, secure MCP, and stronger SSH

    • Improved backend reliability with atomic file saves, safer temp-file cleanup, preserved permissions, and fewer crash paths in recovery code.
    • Secured MCP access with a per-run bearer token and fixed token propagation into Codex, Claude Code, PTY sessions, and MCP discovery.
    • Hardened PTY output handling with bounded backpressure, explicit recording flushes, and clearer overflow/event-gap reporting.
    • Fixed major SSH reliability issues under load, including control-master races, transient connection resets, stale master reuse, and keepalive tolerance during network pauses.
    • Fixed Tauri command failures after opening browser tabs caused by current webview is not a WebviewWindow.
    • Added stream follow mode for text files, including local watcher support, SSH metadata polling, and efficient append handling for growing files.
    • Added XLSX workbook viewing for local and SSH files, with parsing moved to a worker for better responsiveness.
    • Improved viewer/editor stability, including safer PDF rendering bounds and better TSX/JSX Monaco support.
    • Reduced frontend churn with panel-level error boundaries, lighter system-health polling, lazy-loaded agent UI, batched stream rendering, and faster hidden-session handling.
    • Fixed file explorer scroll jumps and context menus being clipped near window edges.
    • Improved Select All behavior so Monaco editors, inputs, terminals, and documents each get the expected handling.
    • Added Fable 5 / claude-fable-5 to internal agent model selectors and orchestration model options.
  7. Rich file viewers & an embedded browser

    • Rich file viewers: a streaming PDF reader (outline, find-in-page, rotation), plus JSON tree, CSV table, Markdown preview, image, and hex/byte inspectors — files open in the right viewer by type, across local and SSH sessions.
    • Embedded browser tabs powered by native WKWebView, with navigation controls, “Open in browser” for HTML files, and screenshot capture via the API/MCP.
    • Three new themes — Matrix, Synthwave, and Quantum (11 built-in total).
    • Lower keystroke-echo latency, recovery from post-display-sleep blank windows, and more API/MCP control (theme, live shell state, workspace viewers) with Python SDK support. Models updated to Claude Opus 4.8.
  8. File viewers & live system health

    • Image and byte/hex file viewers for inspecting workspace files without leaving the app.
    • Live system health (CPU, memory, disk) right in the terminal top bar.
    • Updated model defaults: Claude Sonnet 4.7, Opus 4.7, and GPT-5.5 Codex.
    • Claude and Codex sessions now open in a standard shell by default instead of Zellij.
  9. Sessions that survive sleep

    • Sessions now persist across app closure and system sleep events.
    • Plain shell sessions default to persistent, Zellij-backed terminals.
    • Added a link to the Python SDK for programmatic control of Agents UI.
  10. Built-in MCP server & command palette

    • Built-in MCP server lets AI agents control the app over JSON-RPC 2.0.
    • Command palette (Cmd+K) with fuzzy search across projects and sessions.
    • Eight new themes: Dawn, Sepia, Ember, Slate, Midnight, Cobalt, Neon, and Forest.
    • SSH improvements: auto-reconnect, connection history, and file-transfer progress.
  11. Split panes & live file watching

    • Split terminal panes with side-by-side and stacked layouts.
    • Live file-system watching for local sessions.
    • Tab customization with color pickers and renaming.
  12. Faster terminal rendering

    • Canvas-based terminal renderer delivering 3–5× faster output.
    • Optimized output pipeline with adaptive batching.
    • SSH connection-history panel for quick reconnection.
  13. Foundations

    • Core terminal and SSH functionality, plus startup and performance optimization across the earliest builds.
